Summer Solstice Practice with Surya Mantras

Summer Solstice is a time of celebration; the fullness of the season, the potential for growth and the light and power of the sun.  It is a reminder that we contain the power within us, much like the sun, to nurture and sustain.  Harnessing that power creates the opportunity to step into our fullest expression of who we can be.  Many cultures have a tradition of Solstice celebrations to give thanks for the abundance in the natural world and to remind us of our connection beyond ourselves to all beings.

This will be a steady, thoughtful and uplifting multi-level Vinyasa Flow practice that will include Sanskrit Mantras.  The ancient language of Sanskrit is vibrational and powerful and has resonance in both the subtle, physical and mental body.  The word mantra means to think or mind (man) and to transport or protect (tra).  Mantra is an instrument of the mind.  Mantra is chanted – either aloud or silently/mentally – to transform the mind and bring it stillness.

The Surya (sun) Mantras and the Gayatri Mantra will be an integral part of our practice in addition to the postures (asanas) and breathwork (pranayama).  Think of the mantras as the postures of the mind and the asanas as the postures of the body. Pranayama as a tool to enhance both.

Please join me for this seasonal, celebratory practice.  Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
