Old School Vinyasa: New Year’s Reboot

These “old school vinyasa” practices are different every time. Sometimes it resembles the way I taught many moons ago and sometimes it will feel new to you. It is often based on my current inspirations and interests, the general vibes, and the time of year.

So what can you expect for this new year’s edition? You might feel like joining in if these little bites resonate with you:

  • Moving to relieve winter lethargy of body and/or mind
  • Breathing to free winter-restricted lungs
  • Practicing to set an intention for the new year
  • Breaking a sweat here and there, but also leaning into some thoughtful rest in the latter portion of practice
  • Pausing to notice what is happening at the innermost layers of the self
  • Getting out of your own way, getting out of your head, and getting into your body

Some prior yoga experience is helpful for this practice as it will occasionally move at a more steady pace and will have some moments of vigor. That said, this is not “advanced” and it is most certainly not “power” yoga. I will offer lots of options for beginners with a bit of experience and suggestions for those who are more seasoned.

You can expect plenty of asanas (yoga’s bodily postures) as well as breathing guidance and a brief meditation to close that focuses on the new year ahead of us. Oh, and lest we not forget the longer than your typical weekly class Savasana (the lovely resting pose at the end)!

Practicing in the support of community is a healing ritual and I hope you’ll join in to absorb all of the goodness. If you have any questions about this practice, feel free to reach out.
