Devotion in Motion: Move, Breathe & Chant
Adding a devotional aspect to our practice gives it a layer of depth, power and meaning beyond simple poses. As I am currently immersed in a Bhakti (devotional) yoga chanting course online, my days are filled with Sanskrit mantra. It is really expanding my heart and creating a deep level of commitment in my practice. I would like to offer up some of this inspiration with this 3 class series.
Our (rough) outline of each of the three, 75 minutes classes is as follows:
- 10 minute centering/opening chant & pranayama (breath practice)
- 45 minute creative flow style yoga practice
- 20 minute chanting and brief closing meditation
Chant, breathe, move, chant, sit – it is but one pathway in. We will begin our practices with a centering around a theme, an opening chant (which you will learn) and follow it with a brief pranayama (breath) practice. This will be followed by a flow style (Vinyasa) yoga practice. The last portion of the class will be call and response style (kirtan) chanting. You will be muted during this portion, so do not feel shy about chanting as no one will be able to hear you! You are also welcome to simply absorb the sound and meaning of the chant. We will close by sitting in quiet meditation for a few minutes.
The chant that we will open each class with and the different ones you will learn in each class will be sent to you in an email prior so that you have the written version of it for your learning purposes before, during and after the practices.
If you cannot make the live sessions, the recordings will be available to you for 48 hours after each live class.
The cost for the 3 class series is $45. Registration deadline is by December 1st at 7PM (EST). To register, please visit the web page and scroll down to “Special Events & Workshops on Zoom” section. Payment can be made by PayPal, Venmo or contact me if you need to pay by check.
Policies: Sorry, no class pass use for this special offering and single drop in classes are not available. Payments are non-refundable.
Don’t hesitate to be in touch if you have any questions. I can’t wait to breathe, flow and chant with you!
Om Shanti (peace),
Heather
